Sharing Blog Posts Appropriately

Free Technology for Teachers: How To Share The Blog Posts You Like

I love Richard Bryne's posts on Free Technology for teachers, and always find useful applications for my classroom on his blog. I thought this post was really interesting, and helpful for people learning about blogging who are trying to find appropriate methods of sharing information. Definitely something that is useful to me as I start sharing articles and resources that I find to be useful!

Learning about Ning

I had actually never heard of Ning prior to reading this article, but I find the concept really interesting on an educational level. I like the idea of having more control over what your page looks like, compared to facebook. Also, I like the idea that my students aren't as familiar with it so it could be used more with educational applications to meet the needs of my classroom (at least initially), and with the control over the network it seems like I would be able to establish parameters of who could see our material and what we used it for. I am looking forward to learning more about Ning and finding useful ways to use it in my class next year.

Tech Resource

Free Technology for Teachers: How to Create Flipped Classroom Assignments & Vide...:
With all of the hype currently on flipped classrooms, this is a great resource to take a look at! It sounds very flexible for teachers, as you can use videos you create yourself as well as youtube videos to create lessons for your students. I definitely think this is something I want to try with my class this year!
All Bets Are Off Outside of Math Class | Edutopia
I loved the concept that is discussed in this article. I think it is so important for students to have practice solving real world problems while applying curriculum they are to master in the classroom.  Students always want to know, "Why will I have to know this?" and I find that these real world situations increase student engagement by huge amounts. Student by in is huge with projects like these, and it provides excellent opportunity for evaluation of student mastery as well.

Public Domain Images

Free Technology for Teachers: Use Bing to Find Public Domain Images

I found this article to be really helpful for not only this course, but providing a resource for my students also. It seems like a simple way to search for images that are licensed for public use. Might be something my classmates find helpful as well!:)

Inclusion in the Classroom

Creating a Positive Climate and Culture: How Inclusive Schools Promote SEL | Edutopia

I found this article to be really interesting. I was just reading Wonder, by R.J. Palacio, to my students as a read-aloud for the end of the year. It is a wonderful book about a student with disabilities and how he is treated by his peers. It opened up a really great dialogue with my students about students who were different in a variety of ways. I love the ideas that this article includes on how to create a positive and welcoming climate for students of all needs. Also, if you haven't read Wonder yet, I highly recommend it! My students were begging me to read it longer and longer each day.

Video quiz capabilities

Free Technology for Teachers: Best of 2013 So Far...Create Video Quizzes With Blubbr

I love the idea of being able to quiz your students on a video clip they have watched. This is something you could easily build into a course wiki as an assignment, to watch a video that hits an objective for that day, then have an assessment for each student to take so you have an instant snapshot of where the class is at. I think this is something I will try this fall with my new class.

New Options for Language Learning

Free Technology for Teachers: 40 Free and Open Course for Learning a New Language

I loved this post on my newsfeed. With all of the increased demands on students to gain language learning before graduation, the increased availability of online options that are FREE is huge. I think this is something that students (and adults!) will benefit from greatly.
